An Effective Way of Learning: Flipped Classroom
Hello my dear readers! 💖
How are you? I hope you’re doing great!
I’m back with you guys with another interesting topic.
Today we are going to talk about flipped classroom approach!
As opposed to the traditional style of instruction in which teachers present a lesson to students and then give homework, in flipped classroom approach, students complete direct instruction. For example, viewing a lecture online before the topic is discussed in the class. The goal of first-exposure learning, which involves showing the content to students beforehand, is to allow them to absorb the information at their own pace. Students are better equipped to concentrate on participating in class and get feedback on their work during the lesson rather than just after. On the other hand, there are some who believe that this approach has the potential to cause problems into student’s learning process since they may need to spend hours in front of a computer watching the lectures beforehand and not everyone may be as adopt to learning through a computer.
This time in our Current Issues in Teaching course we were assigned to create an either vocabulary or a grammar teaching video using the flipped classroom approach and we decided to create a grammar teaching video. I worked on this task with my friends Nisa Elmas, Bilge Dilara Doğan and Polat Öztürk. They also have blogs, so you can click here if you want to see Nisa's blog here for Bilge's blog and here for Polat´s blog. Firstly, we decided the topic, “tag questions”. Then, for recording the video we chose screencasting. Me and Nisa explained the topic, Bile and Polat gave examples for practicing according to the lecture. For the slide preparation tool, we chose Canva, since it has so many different and adaptable to every situation templates and features with it’s engaging visuals and easy to use format. After preparing the slides each one of us screencasted our videos and recorded our voices ourselves and lastly Polat edited the whole video by using the tool Shortcut. The biggest challenge for me in the task was deciding on which template should we use on Canva as there were lots of options, but Nisa helped me in the choosing process and we solved the problem. Overall, I really enjoyed working on this task as group. We had a really good group dynamic through the whole task preparation process. I hope we won’t lose it in our next group assignments.

That was all for today.
I hope you enjoy reading!
