Hello my dear readers! 💖 It’s sad to tell you this but this will be my last post in this blog. Since this post is my final post for my Current Issues in Teaching course I want to talk about this course and what I did in this course. So, let's look at what I have done so far. Before taking this course, I wasn’t very familiar with integrating technology into English language teaching. However, this semester has introduced me to a wide variety of tools and approaches such as AR/VR, AI, corpus-based materials, and the flipped classroom. I’ve learned not only how to use these tools but also about their strengths and weaknesses. While they can enhance learning, they also come with challenges, for example, the complexity of some tools like COCA. In general, I didn’t see this course as an obligation or something I had to take. Instead, it was an interesting experience that taught me how to integrate creativity into my teaching in future. Collaborating with my friends who are Nisa Elmas, B...

Enhance Your Speaking Skills With AI!

Image
Hello, my dear readers! 💖 How are you all doing? I hope you are doing amazing!   Today, I’m so excited to come back and announce you our new task. This week, we were supposed to integrate AI into teaching materials. For this task, as usual, I worked with my friends  Nisa Elmas, Bilge Dilara Doğan, and Polat Öztürk. If you’re curious, you can check out their blogs by clicking here for   Nisa's   blog, here for   Bilge's   blog, and here for   Polat’s   blog!     Our task focused on enhancing speaking skills through creating a fun task which we called "Creating Your Dream Vacation." While creating, we used Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, in its “Live” mode. Students are to interact with Gemini to plan their dream vacation abroad. They will describe their ideal vacation, get country suggestions, explore tourist attractions, and request detailed feedback on their speaking skills. The task starts with choosing a country for ...

AR-VR Integrated Learning

Hello my dear readers! 💖   How are you all doing? I hope you’re doing great!   I’m back with another exciting and fun topic to share with you all. This time, we’re diving into the world of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR)! 🌍✨   AR and VR are two very effective tools that are changing the way we learn and experience things. While AR enhances the real world by adding digital elements, VR lets you immerse yourself in a completely virtual world. Sounds cool, right? Well, this week in our Current Issues in Teaching course, our task is designing a teaching material that integrates AR and VR to create a unique learning experience.   For this task, I worked with my friends , Nisa Elmas, Bilge Dilara Doğan, and Polat Öztürk. If you’re curious, you can check out their blogs by clicking here for Nisa's blog, here for Bilge's blog, and here for Polat’s blog!   We decided to take our learners on a virtual trip to Rome,...

An Effective Way of Learning: Flipped Classroom

Image
Hello my dear readers! 💖 How are you? I hope you’re doing great! I’m back with you guys with another interesting topic. Today we are going to talk about flipped classroom approach! As opposed to the traditional style of instruction in which teachers present a lesson to students and then give homework, in flipped classroom approach, students complete direct instruction. For example, viewing a lecture online before the topic is discussed in the class. The goal of first-exposure learning, which involves showing the content to students beforehand, is to allow them to absorb the information at their own pace. Students are better equipped to concentrate on participating in class and get feedback on their work during the lesson rather than just after. On the other hand, there are some who believe that this approach has the potential to cause problems into student’s learning process since they may need to spend hours in front of a computer watching the lectures beforehand and not everyone may...

Creating a Corpus Based Material

Image
Hello, my dear readers!💖 It’s been such a looong time since we last see each other. I’ve missed you guys so much, have you missed me? 🥹🥹 I’m back with you guys with another interesting topic. Today we are going to talk about creating a corpus based material!!! This time in our Current Issues in Teaching course we were assigned to create a corpus based teaching material and a lesson plan based on the ASSURE modal . We were supposed to design a worksheet and our target group was EFL learners who are enrolled in a high school in Turkey. I  worked on this task with my friends Nisa Elmas and Bilge Dilara Doğan. They also have blogs, so you can click   here   if you want to see Nisa's blog and   here   for Bilge's blog. For our worksheet we decided to choose the topic “Too and Enough”. We designed the worksheet with the aim of teaching the topic to the students inductively and we wanted them to get help from the corpus in the learning process. We created dif...

Goodbye!

Hello, my dear readers!💖 It is sad to tell you this but this will be my last post in this blog.  Since this post is my final post for my Instructional Technologies in Material Design course I want to talk about this course and what I did in this course. So, let's look at what I have done so far.  Before taking this course I actually had almost no idea about the integration of technology in English language teaching. I've learned many web pages, AI tools, educational apps and so much more to use in my future assignments and classes when I became a teacher. I also learned that all these tools have both good and bad sides. We can get help from them but they can sometimes make our tasks more challenging and the informations we collect from them might not be reliable.  In general, I didn't see this course and the tasks as something I am forced to take as some of my other courses. :( Instead, this was a great course that taught me lots of things that I can use in the future. W...

Chat with Mehmed the Conquerer!

Image
Hello, my dear readers!💖 Today we are going to talk about using AI tools.  This week we were assigned to  chat with a historical figure, author, or story character by using an AI tool named Magic School. After the chat we were supposed to make a report of the interview and get feedback using the Magic School's Writing Feedback Tool. Lastly, we were supposed to revise our report based on the feedback. We could work on this task alone or with a pair. We worked as a pair with my friend Nisa, you can click here here if you want to check her blog. We wanted to make an interview with Fatih Sultan Mehmed and ask him some questions about the conquest of Constantinople. To chat with Mehmed the conquerer the AI tool we used was Magic School. It has lots of functions such as making a lesson plan, differentiating, writing assessments, communicating with characters and much more. It is also useful for both teachers and students. It was an interesting experience using its cha...
